Three Factors for Decreasing Commercial Kitchen Refrigeration Costs

Commercial foodservice refrigeration costs can account for as much as 25 percent of an operator's energy expenses, and in the warmer climates of Florida, that number can be even higher. With the right equipment and considerations, though, Florida foodservice operators can reduce refrigeration costs by as much as 50 percent. Here's how.

THE NUMBER OF COMPRESSORS

For starters, the more compressors you have, the more energy you're going to consume. By using a scroll digital compressor employed in systems like RDT's Eco-Cool, a single compressor can be used in situations where as many as eight might be required.

ADJUSTABLE LOAD MATCHING

With a smart refrigeration system, the amount of energy required to keep product at temperature can be adjusted according to the load of those products. If less energy is required, Eco-Cool will know this and change cycling accordingly.

REDUCING REFRIGERANT AND PIPING

The less piping required to distribute a smaller amount of refrigerant, the lower an operator's refrigeration costs. Eco-Cool reduces the required amount of both.
